Humane Society of North Iowa builds four new dog runs; Dogs go nuts!

The Humane Society of North Iowa recently constructed four new large dog runs on the north side of their shelter in Mason City for the dogs to use.  The runs are 19 feet wide and 90 feet long and provide shelter dogs the much-needed space they deserve to run off leash and have fun!!!

Special THANKS to the following businesses who made this project possible:

  • River City Fence of Mason City, who did an excellent job on the project and gave us a great rate. (several of the guys from the work crew even repaired some of our roof fascia that had blown off in the wind storm we had while they were working on the fence!!  Double thanks!)
  • Yohn Redi-Mix of Clear Lake, who donated several tons of fill dirt and gravel to help with leveling of the land.
  • Popp Excavating of Osage who donated 100 feet of tile to help with the drainage of the land.

And here’s the proof of how much our dogs LOVE their new space!  We spend the day rotating the dogs throughout the runs so each of the big dogs has the opportunity to exercise.  The space can also be used by volunteers to come out and play fetch or interact with shelter dogs.  We encourage everyone to come out and enjoy this new area and see how much our dogs enjoy it as well!!

Here’s a video of Coco enjoying the new dog runs for the very first time:  (note my awesome pitching arm throwing the tennis ball 90 feet (pat on back-haha)):   Video of dog runs

Macy is enjoying the full length of the new 90 foot runs at the Humane Society of North Iowa!
