\"\"<\/a>The Humane Society of North Iowa is proud to partner with the City of Mason City and the Mason City Police Department to manage the Mason City Stray Animal Shelter.<\/p>\n

The Mason City Stray Animal Shelter was built in 2008 by the City of Mason City to serve the community by reuniting owners with lost pets and by providing shelter and care to stray and abandoned animals.\u00a0The Mason City Police Department is responsible for shelter operations, animal control services and enforcing animal statutes in the community. The Humane Society of North Iowa oversees and manages day to day animal care at the shelter and facilitates animal reclaims and adoptions. This successful partnership has helped many owners be reunited with lost pets, encouraged the adoption of unclaimed pets and has served as an example for other communities wishing to collaborate their animal control and rescue efforts.<\/p>\n

STRAY AND MISSING ANIMALS<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a>Missing Animals:<\/h3>\n

Has your pet gone missing in Mason City or in a nearby community? Please complete a Missing Animal Report<\/a>\u00a0providing as much information as possible about your missing pet. This report notifies the Animal Control Officer and the staff of the Humane Society of North Iowa and the Mason City Stray Animal Shelter.\u00a0 We will attempt to reach you should an animal come into the shelter that matches the details you provide in the Missing Animal Report.\u00a0 Pet owners are also encouraged to check the Humane Society of North Iowa’s website<\/a> to see if their pet is in the shelter.\u00a0 All animals brought in as stray are held for 7 calendar days from intake to allow an owner time to reclaim them. More information about reclaims is below.<\/p>\n

Found Animals:<\/h3>\n

Have you found a stray domestic animal in our community? Please call the Mason City Police Department (641-421-3636) and they will come to pick it up.\u00a0 Found animals must be contained in a portable kennel or other suitable enclosure for transport. All stray animals found in the city limits are taken to the Mason City Stray Animal Shelter (co-located and managed by the Humane Society of North Iowa).\u00a0 Pet owners have 7 calendar days from intake to reclaim their pet. \"\"<\/a>ANIMAL RECLAIMS<\/h3>\n

When an animal is found as a stray in the community, it is brought to the Mason City Stray Animal Shelter and held for 7 days waiting for an owner to come reclaim them. If an animal is not reclaimed, it is made available for adoption after the 7th day.<\/p>\n

To reclaim a pet, you must be able to provide proof of ownership. The City of Mason City considers any one of the listed items as proof:<\/p>\n
