Big news for Iowa animals today.
Governor Kim Reynolds officially signed a bill into law making the torture of animals a felony in Iowa!
The kinds of cases that stick with shelter staff, rescuers, law enforcement, vets, and communities forever are the ones where an animal suffered at the hands of someone who chose cruelty. Those are cases you don’t unsee.
Animals deserve to be protected, and their suffering deserves to be taken seriously. The people who intentionally torture them deserve real consequences.
For everyone in animal welfare who has fought for stronger protections for years… this is a huge step forward.
For every officer, ACO, rescue, shelter worker, foster, vet staff member, and advocate who has had to witness the aftermath of cruelty… this one matters.
We still have work to do. We will always keep pushing for the animals who cannot speak for themselves. But today is a good day for Iowa pets. 🐾
