It's National No Housework Day. So Moonflower says that means extra walks for the doggos. And if you don't have a dog at home to walk, Moonflower along with all the other dogs at the shelter are available for walks. ... See MoreSee Less

TAILS OF SUCCESS: Here's an update from Quinlan (formerly Strawberry shortcake)....I adopted Strawberry shortcake (now called Quinlan) in February. Since then she’s adjusted quite well! I just wanted to send some photos of her with our family! She is so stinking smart. She has figured out how to open our bathroom door from the outside (not the inside yet), how to climb the bunk beds, and where I used to keep her treats (she proceeded to eat all of them). We love having her as a loving and silly addition to our family. ... See MoreSee Less

Today we are celebrating our 67th anniversary!!The Humane Society of North Iowa was founded in 1959 by Mason City resident Alice Anne Blackmore. Alice Anne found homes for and provided care to many animals on her farm and created the beginning foundations of an animal rescue organization in north Iowa. Over the years, our organization grew, evolved, moved, and finally, in 2009, constructed the state-of-the-art facility we currently operate out of. Alice Anne passed away in 2013 at the age of 93; fortunately, she was able to visit the new shelter before her passing to see her dream finally become a reality. We have continued Alice Anne’s mission by working hard to find homes for hundreds of abandoned, displaced and neglected animals each and every year. Adoption data going back to the mid-80’s shows that we have found homes for OVER 13,000 animals…and counting! The Humane Society of North Iowa is proud to be a no-kill shelter, meaning we do not euthanize animals due to a lack of space or the length of time an animal has been in our care. We are so grateful to be able to help our animal friends in need, but we are only able to do so because of generous friends and supporters like you. Thank you to our adopters, donors and volunteers; we simply could not do what we do without you!! THANK YOU for helping us saves lives...since 1959!! <3 <3 ... See MoreSee Less
